On the Future of Jonathan Pollard as Grand Vizier of Zion...
or... The "Peter Principle" in praxis.
bs’d
Many are wondering out loud if Jonathan Pollard has a future as a leader of the Jewish nation.
Others suggest that no mean leadership position deserveth this hero of Israel—that nothing short of the full-blown eschatological appellation of Israel’s end-time commander-in-chief be he: Mashiach ben Yosef!
And while no one likes to be a bubble-popper, we feel the need to discourage that latter contention.
Why?
Very simply, because Jonathan Pollard is a tinkerer.
According to the horse’s own mouth (and that of one of his more frequent interlocutors—the well-manicured and glibly urbane Rav D. bar Chaim), all that’s required to bring about a messianic Jewish revolution is to expand the power base of Itamar ben Gvir and SHMOTRICH in the zionist assembly of 120 and—poof! wow!—we transition to Malchus David.
This, by the way, is why Pollard intends to offer himself as a running mate to the above-mentioned skull-caps before the next round of political circusry begins.
He believes he can make a difference from within.
Moreover, he and his well-manicured rabbi also speak of remaking the IDF, as if that, too, will somehow bring us closer to redemption.
How?
By simply removing the army’s current brahmin leadership and replacing it with a hungrier junior class of inglorious b*st*rds, the required change will thereby be effected.
A tinker here. A soldier there. And the spy will tailor-make a new Jewish reality.
Now, before anyone gets a rash and suggests that we’re being disrespectful toward a man who literally gave his life for the Jewish people, or that we’re unappreciative of the great deeds he did, or the suffering he endured—we’re going to stop you right there.
Every sane Jew recognizes Pollard’s contribution to the life and safety of Jews in Eretz Yisrael and the tremendous price he paid for it.
That’s not the point.
What’s germane is that Pollard, as currently constituted, offers nothing to a nation currently at the beginning of a years-long conflict that will ultimately bring them to redemption.
On the contrary, Pollard’s outlook and vision can only retard that inevitability.
Why?
Because there’s no salvation to be had from any institution of the zionist regime.
None.
Nor can it can’t be tweaked, refined or reformed to the benefit of G-d and the Jewish nation.
It must simply be replaced.
Not so, says Pollard, however. In his view, we just have to elbow and noodge and coerce and convince our way into power, and once there… well, the dominoes will all fall in the right direction.
The Jewish direction.
As if the Knesset guides the destiny of our people.
As if it plays any role at all.
Mashiach will arise from outside the system, friends, and for that reason, won’t be recognized by his brothers—for the most part.
He certainly won’t be voted into the position.
‘PETER’ POLLARD
For all his wonderful thoughts on what should be done to effect a positive, Jewish change at this point, Jonathan Pollard remains a company man. An American company man. Too much a democrat and too mindful of what America thinks or does to bring fresh thinking to the table.
Our trajectory today should be toward disengagement from the system—precisely the opposite of what Pollard and his well-manicured rav are prescribing.
The example of the hilltop youth—and the Peleg Yerushalmi—are instructive in that regard.
To conclude, the “Peter Principle” suggests that ‘a man rises to the level of his incompetence’.
And Pollard appears well on the way to proving the point.
Better he use his talents as a gadfly and agitate from without.

Yes.. years and years, perhaps even months or days. Hashem turns things on their head in a split second. We’re here, because He said so. So, all this narishkeit that’s been fool’s play, will wash away like the Great Flood, if He wants it to. We have Moshiach Fever, does Moshiach have Moshiach Fever? Contemporary times call for contemporary miracles. Not tweaks and cheats, me thinks. Calls for leadership, who’s hearing them, and who cares? Hashem will place his anointed in place, no other way, IMHO. Maybe out of desperation, crusted in galus-think, and wearing bigger shtreimelach than ever, we clash with our inner and outer enemies, till the end, and the skies open, and behold! The sound of the Big Shofar, the Geula!
Mixed feelings about this post:
1. It is important that put of this view. Rav Bar Hayim himself has said, and truly believes, that even any ruling/opinion of a rabbinical authority must stand up to scrutiny. He is no fan of rabbis who are dismissive of questions to their rulings and "authority."
2. "Glibly urbane?" Wish you would have chosen different words. True, it seems you are only going on the words that you hear. But FYI RBH is much deeper than than. He, himself, may see the Knesset as something that may still exist in the near future, but it would have a radically different role (and composition). Let's just say that we are reminded that not everyone and his cousin is "kosher" to sit on a decision making body. Personally I believe they Knesset could be used as a body of representatives bringing petitions and relevant information to the King, so that he can make informed decisions, and not a decision-making body itself, unless the King has already approved some options for them.
3. On the other hand, we should learn from our mistakes, and not repeat them. "He believes he can make a difference from within." Rav Kahane learned this lesson. Rav Benny Elon should have learned this lesson, but I don't think so. He also used these words about facilitating change from within. He brought a change in the Law of Return to Sharon. It "failed" in cabinet, so Sharon (who may not even have been Jewish) shrugged, and said, "Well, we tried." Hopefully Moshe Feiglin has learned this lesson. But I doubt it. Ben Gvir has had roadblocks put up against him at every step of the way. But he doesn't seem to be getting the message.
4. Regarding the IDF. Because it already has the infrastructure, it makes sense to refrain from throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
5. I hope that everyone, even some on the Erev Rav left acknowledge that the Haredi draft issue, for example, has never been about the Haredi draft. It's about indoctrination, not to mention having something to demonize Haredim about.

6. I mentioned this before, and I will mention this probably 1,000 more times, the Haredim and the [real] settlers are our future. Very frustrating that they can't together much.
